I am no movie buff; in fact, I’ve been told that I have no discerning ability to know a good movie from a bad one. But two of my favorites are “The Game” and “The Matrix”. The Matrix, I think is widely known but The Game is somewhat obscure.
In The Game, a millionaire businessman (Michael Douglas) is convinced his life is ruined to the point of considering suicide all the time knowing and being told that what was happening to him was all a game that his brother paid for him to play. The Matrix on the other hand, is an existence of two totally different worlds where people are deceived into believing that the false world is real.
OK, Bob, so what’s your point? My point is that we are living in a world that may be at a major turning point. There will be many people telling you that this is the way the world is and this is what you need to do to move on with your career; because this is the way it has always been.
Don’t get me wrong, some things never change and many things “should” never change, but when it comes to businesses and the way business is done, I believe things are going to change considerably. It is already becoming the norm that an individual changes jobs 4-6 times in their career. Business meetings are beginning to take place on Skype type platforms. Product design, manufacturing, assembly, sales and service are all being performed in different countries around the world.
Being able to foresee, prepare, adapt and staying in the forefront will be the skills that will take you toward the top of your field. The time of the world being as it is, is over. Train yourself to be Neo. “Do you think that, that air you are breathing is real?” “Free your mind.”
How do you position yourself to take advantage of the changes to come?
